Leveraging Strengths of Effective Supt/Cabinet Teams

Leveraging Strengths of Effective Supt/Cabinet Teams
Join your colleagues for an interactive session discussing effective superintendent/cabinet team dynamics. Three superintendent/cabinet member teams will share their unique experiences followed by group discussions and networking.

1) How to Run an Ultramarathon Relay Race: Trauma Informed Commitments for Cabinet Partnership in a Pandemic
Presented by Ms. Aviva Kafka, Superintendent, Hyde Park CSD & Dr. Gregory Brown, Deputy Superintendent, Hyde Park CSD
The presenters will share examples of how they worked together as a team to navigate this past year as leaders in public education within the framework of seven trauma-informed commitments. Then participants will discuss their own experiences as they relate to questions posed. Participants will broaden their understanding of how they can build on the strengths of their leadership teams through a trauma-informed lens.

2) Communication, Communication, Communication
Presented by Kristin Orr, Superintendent, South Glens Falls CSD & Tim Dawkins, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, South Glens Falls CSD
Communication in the central office is essential for a good working team to take place. Kristine and Tim will discuss their formal and informal communication strategies that make their leadership team thrive. Participants will hear effective strategies and will review their own to decide if anything needs to be improved.

3) Mission Focused Leadership
Presented by D. Joseph Corr, Superintendent, North Colonie CSD & Kathleen Skeals, Deputy Superintendent, North Colonie CSD
Let's face it: mission statements can often be nice words on a page. How do we leverage those words to anchor our work? It's all too easy, not to mention understandable, for leadership teams to get consumed by the urgent tasks which we confront on a daily basis. In this session, we will discuss how we use the cabinet structure to remain focused on the mission of the district and share with our colleagues the ways in which we have been able to use the mission to help our larger administrative team focus on the important work of schooling. Participants will reflect on their mission statements and generate strategies as to how to use those statements to center the work of the district.
