2019 Appreciation Award Winners

Congratulations to Lauren F. French, Superintendent, Gouverneur and Lesli C. Myers-Small, Ed.D. Superintendent, Brockport who were both selected to receive The Council’s Appreciation Award. The award was established to recognize an active member’s efforts on behalf of The Council and its initiatives.

  • Lauren French is a member of the LEAF, Inc. She started her own Women’s Leadership program as a compliment to The Council’s Women’s Initiative to bring women together in the North Country. She has also traveled the state as a LEAF board member supporting many programs provided by our foundation. 

  • Board of Directors, serves as an House of Delegate alternate and participates on the Conference Committee Task Force. She has been a major contributor to The Council's Women's Initiative and has advocated for programs for The Council in the North Country.

Lesli Myers-Small has served on the Women’s Initiative Steering Committee, has been a member of the Commission on Diversity and Inclusivity, served as a member of the House of Delegates, and speaks regularly at annual Council events.

Lesli has been a major contributor and supporter of the Women’s Initiative as both a speaker and a Committee member. She also participates on the Dr. Mary Barter Scholarship Committee, the Commissioner's Advisory Council, State Legislative Committee and Snapshot Committee.

This year’s awards were sponsored by our Signature Partner SEI Design Group and were presented at the 2019 Winter Institute & Lobby Day's opening keynote session. 

The Selection Process

The Appreciation Award is given in recognition of an active members' efforts on behalf of The Council and its initiatives. Individuals can be nominated by a colleague in the field of education or by an active member of The Council. The award is given at our Winter Institute each year.

Nomination letters are written by members or staff of The Council and sent in January, prior to the Winter Institute, for inclusion in the selection process. The Distinguished Service Committee, composed of current Council presidents and past presidents who are active superintendents, makes the final selection.
