LEAF presents Redesigned LEAF Subscription for Professional Learning
LEAF Subscription Service: A new name, a new design, with continued high-quality content
By Kelly O. Masline, Director, LEAF, Inc.
The LEAF subscription service, which provides six issues of professional learning information annually, was started two years ago to provide our membership with high-quality training in a convenient and cost-effective format. The LEAF Board of Directors and staff believe that training must be differentiated in its presentation and built into the culture of each district on an ongoing and regular basis.
This year, subscribers will notice a new name, a new design, and a new content source for the professional learning materials they receive from LEAF. To provide research, activities, and other content for the upcoming subscription year, we have contracted with WestEd, a public, nonprofit research, development, and service agency that works at the national, state, and local levels to improve education and other important outcomes for children, youth, and adults. Content development will be overseen by WestEd's Learning Innovations Program, in particular, which has long worked closely with educators and education policymakers in the northeast. The first issue, due to be released in mid-October, will focus on close reading. With the advent of the Common Core State Standards, the strategy of close reading has become a very important topic in education. Many educators are looking for effective ways to prepare students with the comprehension skills needed to understand complex texts. Close reading is an approach currently being used to prepare students to do this.
Other issues will focus on topics that will continue to assist school leaders and educators as you continue to improve teaching and learning.
The cost of the annual subscription service is $250.
