Robert J. Reidy, Jr., Executive Director 2010
Robert J. Reidy, Jr. assumed the role of Executive Director effective on July 1, 2010 when Thomas L. Rogers left the organization.
Bob served 32 years of his 41 years in education as a superintendent, 22 of those years in New York State. He had educational experience in rural, suburban and city districts.
Bob assumed leadership of The Council during a very challenging period. The financial downturn was at its peak and rapid educational initiatives were being issued by both the state and federal government.
During this time, Bob’s focus was on the sustainability and relevancy of The Council. Greater involvement of Council members was encouraged and new strategic partnerships arrangements were introduced.
In addition to increasing the investment in Advocacy, The Council produced several white papers relevant to topical issues, as well as an envisioning statement titled Public Education Matters, which involved many members throughout the creation process.
In 2014, The Council purchased the 7 Elk Street building. Until then the building was co-owned with the New York State Association of School Business Officials. A new training center was established on the first floor called the Leadership Center at 7 Elk.
Also during Bob’s tenure, The Council continued to have record attendance at the Winter Institute and the Fall Leadership Summit events. Members and strategic partners demonstrated strong loyalty to The Council and LEAF, Inc.
Under Bob’s leadership, investments were also made in technology by transitioning to a new database system, establishing a new Council website and later updating it for search engine optimization, introducing event mobile apps, incorporating email marketing tools and expanding the use of social media platforms.
Bob credits his colleagues at The Council and LEAF, Inc., as well as members and strategic partners for the organization’s growth and health.
