Services

MEMBER SERVICES

NYSCOSS offers its members a range of professional and personal services:

  • Legal Assistance
    Superintendents wishing advice on contractual or employment issues may contact a Council attorney. Additional assistance is available in the event of contract litigation.
  • Professional Assistance
    Program PAP is available to all members and their families. If you or a member of your family is faced with a difficult situation, you are encouraged to contact the Employee Network at 800-327-CALL. All services are confidential.
  • EDUCORPS
    EDUCORPS consists of retired superintendents who offer consultation and advice to superintendents seeking their counsel. For further information call Donald Harkness at 516/367-1415.
  • American Association of School Administrators
    The National affiliate of NYSCOSS, AASA provides additional leadership services to educational leaders. The Council encourages AASA membership. Dues for both organizations may be paid together through NYSCOSS.
  • Legislative Activities
    Staffed with a full-time Associate Director for Governmental Relations, the Council actively influences educational policy and legislation at both the State and National levels. Whether through position papers or memoranda of opposition or support, NYSCOSS strongly advocates for children from the unique perspective of the school district's chief educational leader.

    Published monthly, the Councilgram is our primary source of communication. The "Gram" includes State, National, Member, Council, and AASA News. It also features recent job openings. News items must be received by the 10th of each month.

    This is the seventh in a series of surveys, which provides a statistical analysis on personal, contractual, retirement and educational issues related to the Superintendency.

    Ideal for new superintendents drafting their first employment contract with the board of education or current superintendents looking for illustrative clauses.     The Council provides a more comprehensive legal service for our superintendent members.
  • Directory of Chief School Officers
    The directory includes address, fax and e-mail information for New York State superinendents. (Published every fall)

    Designed to provide an overview of The Council's goals, initiatives and activities of the past year.

    Periodically the Council publishes papers to the membership. The papers cover timely and important issues related to education.
