New Superintendents Institute

The New Superintendents Institute is a professional development program consisting of five sessions throughout the year specifically for first year superintendents or those superintendents new to New York State. The program is tailored to making the transition to the superintendency successful. Participants may opt to attend individual sessions or all five workshops. Topics throughout the series include, but are not limited to: developing superintendent/school board relationships, finance and budget development, the superintendent's role as district advocate, and leadership responsibilities and ethics. Each workshop includes small roundtable discussions with veteran superintendents.

 

The first workshop, the New Superintendents Orientation, will be held in August 2015, prior to the start of the school year, and offers an introduction to The Council, LEAF, Inc. and the New York State Education Department. The New Superintendents Institute continues with sessions in September, November, January and March. The September and March workshops are planned to coincide with The Council's annual conferences to help reduce additional time out of district.
